Glossary › Set list

Set list

The ordered list of songs for a show, often with keys, tunings or segues.

A set list (or setlist) is the ordered list of songs the band will play. The stage copy is printed big and taped to the floor; the crew copy often adds notes like guitar changes, tunings, key changes, segues and timing.

Set lists also matter after the show: in many countries, performances are reported to a performing-rights organization (in the US: ASCAP, BMI or SESAC) so songwriters get paid.

Example

"1. Opener (drop D) · 2. Single · 3. Slow one → segue · 4. New song (capo 2) ... Encore: 14. Closer." Total runtime 72 minutes, inside the 75-minute set time.

In TRMNGR

Setlists add up song lengths into a runtime, attach to show days, print big-print PDFs and track whether each one was submitted to ASCAP, BMI or SESAC.
