Monitor world
The side-stage position where the monitor engineer mixes what musicians hear on stage.
Monitor world is the side-stage mixing position where the monitor engineer mixes what each musician hears: floor wedges, side fills or in-ear monitors. Each musician usually gets their own mix.
Small venues often run monitors from the FOH console, with no separate monitor engineer, so the number of available mixes is a key advance question.
Example
The input list's MIX column shows four monitor mixes: vocals, guitar, bass and drums. The tech rider asks for "4 mixes on 4 wedges, plus a drum fill." The monitor engineer builds each mix during soundcheck.
Tips
Keep mix numbers consistent from night to night, mark wedge positions on the stage plot, and tell the venue in advance if the band uses in-ears.
