TRMNGR vs spreadsheets (Google Sheets and Excel)
Competitor details checked October 7, 2026 from their public websites. Features and prices change, so check their sites before deciding.
Most tours start in a spreadsheet, and many finish there too. Spreadsheets are free or already paid for, endlessly flexible and familiar to everyone. Here is an honest look at where a spreadsheet is the right tool and where an app like TRMNGR saves time. We make TRMNGR, and we also give away spreadsheet templates, so we like both.
At a glance
| TRMNGR | Google Sheets / Excel | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Not published yet; the web app and iPhone beta are open now | Google Sheets is free with a Google account; Excel comes with Microsoft 365 or Office |
| Flexibility | Fixed structure built around tour days | Anything you can build |
| Budgets, per diems, expenses | Not included | Ideal. See our free budget templates |
| Sharing | Per person, View or Edit for each area | Per file: anyone you share the file with can open every tab in it [1] |
| On a phone | Day View built for phones, with reminders on the day sheet items you pick | Works, but wide sheets are hard to read on a small screen |
| Day sheet PDFs | One tap per day | Build your own print layout |
| Stage plot, input list, setlists | Built in | Possible, but plots are awkward in a grid |
| Offline | Phone reminders fire without signal; we don't advertise full offline editing | Google Sheets has an offline mode [2]; Excel desktop works offline |
| History | Deleted tours go to trash first | Version history in Google Sheets [3] and Excel |
| Co-editing | Shared tours sync through the cloud | Real-time co-authoring in both [4] |
Where a spreadsheet is the better tool
- Money planning. Budgets, per diems, expense logs and routing math are better in a spreadsheet, and TRMNGR doesn't do them. Use our tour budget spreadsheet, per diem tracker and expense log.
- One-off or unusual tours. If the tour doesn't look like a run of shows, a blank grid is more flexible.
- Everyone already knows it. No accounts, no learning curve.
- Offline-first. A downloaded Excel file works anywhere.
Where TRMNGR saves time
- Different people need different parts. In a shared spreadsheet, sharing is per file. In TRMNGR the merch seller can see Merch, the drummer can see the schedule and settlement can stay with the TM.
- Phones. Day View is built for a phone at load-in, with tap-to-call contacts, tap-to-open addresses and reminders on the items you choose.
- Paperwork for venues. Day sheets, guest lists, hospitality riders, setlists, stage plots and input lists export as PDFs in one tap.
- Live merch. Square sales and on-hand counts without copying numbers into a sheet.
Use both
TRMNGR exports and imports whole tours as Excel (All Tours → Import/Export), and our free templates open in Excel and Google Sheets. Plenty of tours keep the budget in a spreadsheet and run the days in TRMNGR.
